Hello Troop 1!

What a great Service Project today!  It started off a little damp, chilly, and windy but in no time at all Troop 1 was forging ahead and heated up and did such a wonderful job, the Botanist Jay Walker excused the boys around 12:30pm.  For those of you who missed the opportunity today, we were asked to come back and put the final touches on the trails prior to the September Centennial event.  Also, in September we were asked to be present to usher those visitors and to educate them on the various trees, plants, and surroundings that are so precious to this area.

It was very informative, I along with the boys learned a lot about the Botanical Garden, and the planning which is underway for this international draw to our community.  Many Eagle Projects were identified at this gathering for some of our Life Scouts to pursue!  I would like thank KellyJo Rickman for giving us a heads up on this unique and worthy opportunity.  I would also like to thank Michael Jones for heading up this effort, and also all of you Scouts and Scouters who braved the weather and left a very positive Troop 1 footprint throughout the grounds.

Monday 16- Regular Meeting- 7:00pm First Presbyterian Church, please be aware of your advancement requirements.  Cut off date for advancement being recorded by Mr. Wheeler is Monday, May 14.  ( Those receiving rank advancements need to notify Mr. Wheeler no later than Friday, May 11, so we will have ample time to order from the Scout Shop.)

Monday 23- Campout Planning Eagle District Camporee- 7:00pm -  Camp Garland will be hosting this campout.  We will follow the Patrol Method.  Each Patrol will need to complete a Duty Roster.   We will be camping in the Eagles Nest campsite.

Friday-Sunday 27-29- Campout- Eagle District Camporee - We will compete against other troops, be teaching merit badges, getting merit badges, and working on advancement skills for all of those Scouts who need to complete requirements.  We will dress in our full Class A's for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  If you do not have a new neckerchief you need to see me.

Sunday 29- Fifth Sunday Ushering at First Presbyterian- 10:00am- Zach Rowland will be in charge of this service to the church.  We need several volunteers (Scouts and Scouters) to usher at the church on Sunday morning.  We will excuse you early from the Camporee if you volunteer to usher.  See Zach if you can help out with this very important service to the church.

On a final note, if you are going to Camp Tom Hale you need to get in your $100.00 deposit and communicate with Dr. Stotler/Mr. Keeling and select your merit badges you wish to get.

See you Monday night!

Yours in Scouting,

Sam Arndt
